Iron, steel or aluminum?
Aluminum does not rust, weighs less and suits pools and most yards. Steel and wrought iron are heavier and stronger, and need paint or powder coat touch-ups over time.

Why are open fences popular in front yards?
Front-yard rules in most cities favor low or see-through fences, and a metal picket fence gives a clear property line without walling off the street.
Do they work on a slope?
Yes. Many aluminum panels rack, meaning they tilt to follow a gentle grade. On steeper ground we step the panels instead.
Open metal fences on hillside lots
Anaheim's code lets open-work metal fencing reach 6 feet in the front setback on RH-1 and RH-2 hillside lots, with a limit on solid area and approval from the city traffic manager. Elsewhere the front limit is 3 feet.
